"Mess-Age", the first Headcleaners CD that was released in 1998 met with unbelievable acclaim from music fans and has since achieved cult status. In 2010, twelve years later, Harald Haerter, the guitarist and head of Unit Records, approached the band and asked them to record a successor album for the renowned label. Practically at the same time, band leader, guitarist and composer Anton Brüschweiler received a NAIRS artist-in-residence bursary. In the summer of 2010 he retreated to the NAIRS Centre for Contemporary Culture in the Engadine to devote his time to composition. Stylistically, the music moves between urban crossover, free funk, trash rock, drum 'n' bass and avant-garde. The compositions, which remain mostly in compound metres, build on contrapuntal and polyrhythmic grooves, yet always retain a characteristic 'Anton'-like trademark sound and mischievousness, in common with Anton's numerous other productions. In addition to the stellar line-up of the group's regular members, the album features a handful of outstanding guest musicians: Andreas Schaerer, the stunning vocalist on "Hildegard lernt fliegen" and Martina Schibler with her wrenching soul voice. Plus Beat Affolter, Swiss trumpet virtuoso (Picason, Chica Torpedo). So:ren Berner, Danish performance artist and son of the cousin of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, raps on the album. Also audible are statements by the Chinese artist Chen Yun who also held the position of artist-in-residence at NAIRS.
