Where does the inspiration for a new album start? Maybe here... A few years ago I was in Greece, in Delphi, a truly magical place! In the vestibule of the oracle at Delphi there used to be three aphorisms, the three “Apollonian wisdoms”, which were supposed to put people in the mood for the oracle and its answers. These three aphorisms were: “Know thyself!”, “Nothing in excess!” and lastly, and perhaps most mysteriously, “You are”. This is how people were supposed to be prepared for the oracle. These aphorisms actually also gave part of the answers to people’s questions, I think.It is to the outside that we often look for the answers, and that’s where some of the knowledge lies. But the answers to our questions lie largely within ourselves and in our view of the world. That’s what this album is about. The better I know myself, the closer I get to my core - the greater the variety of what I can think, imagine, feel and express. My journey into the future is also a journey towards myself because wherever I go I always take myself with me, into every new situation, into every new place, into every new relationship. So you now hold an album in your hands with nine songs about longing for distance, the desire for closeness, about change, transience and a new start, as well as the question: where do I belong? Our quartet has grown together wonderfully in the last two years. We’re exactly where we are, and that’s a good thing. I don’t think we’ve come to the end of our musical journey yet. I’m looking forward to everything that’s coming up musically. But now let’s pause for a moment and enjoy the view with you - we are now exactly where we belong. So our new album is a determination of location, intellectually and musically – “Belonging”. Well then, let’s go slowly, let’s not move too fast! Let’s pause in this moment, stretch it out and luxuriate in it!
