After over 30 common played concerts, the trio Andreas Schmidt (piano), Jan Roder (bass) and Max Andrzejewski (drums, percussion) recorded their album " music for e-motians on one single day. Almost all of the tracks came to life as "first takes "and have been recorded in an old school way meaning without headphones. The trio`s aesthetics reflect its musical influences: the Paul Bley Trio (1960) with Paul Motian playing the drums, the Keith Jarrett Trio (also 1960), again with Paul Motian on the drums and the Masabumi Kikuchi Trio with...Paul Motian performing on the drums. The band loves this reference to the jazz tradition. They take and give themselves a lot of space in dealing with Schmidts compositional template. The focus lies on improvising, the joy of playing, communicating and on individuality. This trio Schmidt/Roder/Andrzejewski possesses its own phonetic, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic colour. There is no leader, the musicians create their music at the very moment. Together. "After having played over 200 concerts with Dewey Redman I can really say, that this sublime Trio is about the only European group with a similar DEEP SPIRIT, that has gotten so rare in todays musical landscape. There is no hectical moment. only pure Music." Harald Haerter In memory of Paul Motian, Schmidt formed the trio with Jan and Max, finished his compositions and played them in concerts. The first and the last song on the album are Motian-writings. A sort of a tribute to the inspiration that exerted Motian on the world of jazz. Paul Bley wrote the lyrical notes in the CD's digipack after having listened to the final record. His wife Carol Goss rounded off the whole project with her drawing on the album cover.
