The music on AKO's first album "city of the mountain lion" was inspired during an artist's residency in Singapore ("The LionCity"). While observing the life and customs in the modern Asian metropolis with its cleanliness, order and ambiguity,bandleader and pianist Anicia Kohler wrote a series of pieces for her sextet of Bernese jazz musicians. The line-up with twosaxes, trombone and rhythm section offers many possibilities and allows for orchestral or groove-oriented sounds, atonal ortwelve-tone motives as well as simple, beautiful melodies dissolving in solos or collective improvisation.
