Artur Cieslak is a composer and pianist. He studied piano under Professor Regina Smendzianka and Professor Jerzy Romaniuk, and he studied composition under Professor Jan Astriab and Professor Marian Borkowski. At first, he was very active as a pianist. Since the middle of the 1990s, he has been focusing on composition. In 2000, his Sonata for clarinet and piano received first prize in the Polish Composition Competition organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the foundation of Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan. He debuted in the international arena in 2003: Reminiscence and Sonata were presented during the 13th World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis (USA). In 2009, Reminiscence for saxophone and piano and Understatements for cello and piano were qualified for the finale of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition in Thessaloniki, and the composer received the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Composition. Cieslak was a semi-finalist of the International Composition Competition ‘Maurice Ravel’ in Bergamo (2015). Also in 2015, De profundis for a cappella choir was among the five compositions selected in the ‘Canticum Novum’ competition during the 19th International Choral Festival CRO PATRIA in Split, Croatia. Cieslak’s compositions have been performed during many festivals and concerts. He is employed by the Art Academy of Szczecin and Feliks Nowowiejski Associated Music Schools in Szczecin.
