Among the numerous edition of the Requiem by Verdi, we can say that this live version conduced by Ferenc Fricsay in 1960 in Berlin is absolutelly anomalous in the field of the interpretation of the religious mastwrwork by Verdi. Not to be confused with the DG edition of 1953, which, in comparison with this one, is irrelevant. It is not clear why the hungarian conductor has changed his performing point of view in just 7 years but what it sure is that this version of 1960 is upsetting for the great impact Fricsay devolves from his perspective to the audience. We just believe that this listening can show a masterwork of the interpretation. In addition to the Requiem, this box contains the performance of the Quattro Pezzi sacri (Berlin, 1952) and the 4 Verdian Ouvertures recorded in 1952-1953.
