Érudit curieux, insatiable touche-à-tout, Nemescu est un des contributeurs majeurs de la nouvelle avant-garde de la musique roumaine, celle qui s’est attachée à renouer avec les origines, à bâtir une nouvelle universalité artistique. Comme son contemporain Corneliu Dan Georgescu, il s’intéresse à l’essentialisation (application à la musique de la notion psychanalytique d’archétype) ou à la musique spectrale - pour laquelle il se sert lui aussi de l’ison byzantin. Les deux pièces qu’offre ce disque sont à la fois ancrées dans l’essentialité des musiques de tous les temps (le folklore de la cloche du berger) et dans la nouveauté (les techniques avant-gardiste). NonSimfonia V (a Sfarsiturilor), au son dense, à l’intensité persistante, au temps suspendu et expansé, et PreSimfonia VI (a Începuturilor), aux consonances spectrales, intenses et saturées, à la conjonction paradoxale d’un constant crescendo haché de silences lourds de sens, forment un disque captivant, qui ouvre à l’œuvre d’un compositeur aux publications phonographiques rares au regard du nombre de ses partitions. An album dedicated to the work of Octavian Nemescu – one of the 20th century’s classics, underestimated by the phonographic industry. Octavian Nemescu (born 1940) is the last living representative of the “golden series” (George Enescu, Stefan Niculescu, Aurel Stroe, Tiberiu Olah, Myriam Marbe, and Anatol Vieru) and the leading creator of the second (and last) Romanian avantgarde. In opposition to the “Darmstadt” orientation of the creators of the first avant-garde, this formation has set itself the goal of discovering a common “pre-defined” tradition of all music. This quest led to the Romanian branches of spectral music and archetypal music.
