 Gaetano Valeri (1760-1822) organiste et compositeur né à Padoue consacra sa carrière à sa ville, il y fut organiste à la cathédrale puis maître de chapelle. Il est l'auteur d'une œuvre essentiellement destinée au clavier (orgue et clavecin) la plupart à fonction liturgique, nonobstant quelques pièces orchestrales et vocales. Il est célèbre pour son corpus de sonates. Ces dernières, composées pour orgue ou pour clavecin, doivent bien plus à Alberti (Les basses récurrentes) qu'à Domenico Scarlatti ou même Galuppi. Elles sont de forme bipartite et témoignent d'un certain style galant appliqué à l'orgue. Outre les recueils de sonates, ce disque présente quelques pièces isolées. Une Marche suffisamment roborative pour faire fuir les fidèles, un Largo, une Pastorale et cette Grande Symphonie qui évoque plus une suite de danses qu'une transcription d'orchestre. L'ouverture quant à elle sonne comme une ouverture d'opéra (Rossini). Entre jeux nasillards, clochettes et trombes assourdissantes, les orgues choisis (Callido, 1797 et Bazzani, 1832), s'ils baignent dans leur jus, ne sont pas des modèles en termes d’acoustique. A la tribune, Alessandro Perin déchiffre avec délectation ces partitions mineures. (Jérôme Angouillant) Taking the advantage of two great historical instruments [the Giacomo Bazzani e Figli, 1832, organ of San Lorenzo in Cavazzana (RO) church, and the Gaetano Callido 1797, organ of the Beata Vergine del Rosario in Polesella (RO) church], in this double CD organist Alessandro Perin offers a significant collection of the works by the Paduan composer Gaetano Valeri, a leading exponent of the late eighteenth century Italian keyboard music scene. Remaining anchored to the ‘galante’ style, Valeri’s sonatas are characterized by great inventiveness, singability, rhythmic variety and formal elegance, and naturally enhance the variegated tonal characteristics of the Italian seventeenth-century organs. With the participation of maestro Roberto Loreggian, to be noted the world premiere recording of the two four-hands works taking to the limit the expressive and technical features of the instrument.
