Since the early years of 1500, the city of Cremona has been one of the starting point in the history of music therefore, in order to make people aware of this great tradition, we have produced a work as a simple and sincere tribute to all those who over the centuries have helped develop or create the evolution of the music produced by stringed instruments over the centuries. Since that time, when a new musical path started in a city already rich in art and history, also the development of the art of violin making has found in Cremona a new quality of stringed instruments, which was and still is today universally aknowledged. From the intense cultural life of renaissance, going through the narrow streets of the town, the families of violin makers like Amati, Guarneri del Gesù or the Stradivari gained great fame as masters (maestri) of their art and contributed to revolutionize the music, the composition and the performance of harmonies often written by their fellow citizens. The arrangements of these songs are inspired by great authors, as Tarquinio Merula, Claudio Monteverdi and Amilcare Ponchielli, who were composers who developed in Cremona their innovative and certainly unique way to communicate through the universal language par excellence, that is the one related to music. Among the musicians of this collection you will not find Cremonese or Italian citizens: actually, these composers perhaps never managed to see the city of Cremona, even if some of them are well known, but - as a tribute to the “City of Music” - each of them wanted to tie their sheet music to the program that changed the way of making music and let it know to people who will have the pleasure of listening to new works played with unique instruments. From this union came the idea of this work, whose authors are grateful to everyone who did their best to keep alive a musical message that remains as crucial as ever, and that has been generated from a unique musical revolution. With its more than 2200 years, the city of Cremona owns a unique heritage of art and culture, which you can discover or rediscover thanks to the authors of “ Cremona” CD, paying homage to the music as a means to unite peoples. The “Cremona” CD was made possible thanks to the support provided by Carlo Alberto Carutti with his collection of instruments “Le Stanze per la Musica” (Rooms for Music), which are on display at Museo Civico Ala Ponzone of Cremona.
