On tient trop souvent le Triple Concerto pour la partition la plus anecdotique qui aurait coulé de la plume de Beethoven ; nonobstant le mépris des musicographes je l’ai toujours aimée. Cet allant, ce plaisir des mélodies joyeuses, cette liberté dans la conduite des voix, ce quelque chose d’improvisé a pourtant besoin d’interprètes qui savent lire entre les lignes. Car derrière la parure rayonnante, le giocoso incessant, Beethoven y déploie son art mordant, ses foucades, tout cela avec un petit coté Haydn qui montre à quel point il en fut le fils spirituel. Michael Korstick et ses amis saisissent tout de cette perle brillante, le piano virevolte et tonne, le violoncelle si svelte, si élégant de David Geringas fait aussi de virtuosité alors que Thomas Albertus Irnberger empoigne son violon avec un appétit de chant, un charme qui mettent à l’ensemble une couleur viennoise, même si tout cela est enregistré à Londres, avec un Royal Philharmonic réglé au cordeau par James Judd. Il y a ici la même joie un rien déboutonnée que je trouvais jadis à la version du trio Wührer-Gimpel-Schüster. A ce Triple s’ajoute les deux Romances et le Concerto pour violon. Irnberger m’y semble très libre dans les Romances, mais autrement incertain dans le Concerto , comme si le chef d’œuvre l’intimidait. Tout le premier mouvement peine à le voir inspiré, mais lorsque la prière lyrique du Larghetto parait son archet se libère enfin dans l’émouvant silence que suggère James Judd à son orchestre, et tout au long du final le violoniste salzbourgeois trouve son élan, faisant danser son archet. The Austrian violinist Thomas Albertus Irnberger has for many years been cooperating with world-class orchestras and soloists. For this double SACD with the Violin Concerto and the Concerto for Piano, Violin and Cello (Triple Concerto) by Ludwig van Beethove n, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra offered their support under the baton of James Judd. Irnberger already collaborated with piani st Michael Korstick and David Geringas, cello on their latest release with Schubert piano trios. Well then, now the concerts of Be ethoven with their groundbreaking relevance with a top-of-the-line international cast - Enjoy! The Clarinotts are a one-of-a-kind clarinet trio formed of Ernst, Daniel and Andreas Ottensamer – the Principal Clarinettists of the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. Founded in 2005, the ensemble aims to find new and exciting ways in which to bring the varied voices of the clarinet family to the fore, performing on the E-flat, bass clarinet and basset horn alongside the more common B-flat and A clarinet.With an emphasis on the Viennese tradition of clarinet playing, the individual excellence of each player – all esteemed international soloists in their own right – is expressed in collective performances of the very highest quality. Comprising extant works, new arrangements and high-profile commissions, The Clarinotts’ repertoire is wide-ranging and diverse, covering core classical masterpieces as well as film music and jazz – all serving to display the dazzling range of colour and inbuilt unity of this critically acclaimed father-and-son trio.
