Ni notice, ni métadonnées d’enregistrement : l’éditeur réservait-il ce double CD à quelques « happy few » érudits ou nostalgiques ? Pourtant attention, les jeunes : interprètes et enregistrements historiques ! Szeryng était considéré par les mélomanes des années 1960 à 1980 comme un des « aristocrates » du violon avec Oïstrakh et Milstein. Quant à Walcha, musicien aveugle qui apprenait ses partitions en Braille et jouait tout de mémoire, il fût à cette époque un leader de l’interprétation « informée » sur des orgues historiques. Bien sûr, on ne joue plus Bach ainsi... Mais leurs sonates BWV 1014 à 1019 figurent probablement parmi les 10 meilleurs disques du violoniste (l’andante un poco de BWV 1015, l’adagio ma non tanto de BWV 1016 sont pour moi inoubliables). Quant aux chorals « Schübler » (1947, orgue Stellwagen de l’église Sankt Jacobi à Lübeck), ils démontrent dans une exceptionnelle prise de son « mono » à quel point Walcha (dans des tempi certes bien lents) utilisait les registres à la manière d’un peintre... ce que confirme en stéréo le prélude et fugue BWV 543, à l’orgue Schnitger de la St Laurenskerk d’Almaar. Extraite d’un concert pragois, la partita finale me renvoie au théâtre municipal de Grenoble ou encore « ado » j’ai entendu « Monsieur l’Ambassadeur » la jouer : arborant entre les pièces son insupportable air dédaigneux, il se métamorphosait et mystifiait l’auditoire dès que son archet touchait les cordes. Immanquable, malgré hélas quelques défauts de montage. (Olivier Eterradossi)

The six Sonatas for violin and harpsichord BWV 1014–1019 by Johann Sebastian Bach are works in Trio Sonata form, with the upper parts in the harpsichord and violin over a bass line supplied by the harpsichord and an optional viola da gamba. Unlike baroque sonatas for solo instrument and continuo, where the realisation of the fi gured wass was le% to the discrection of the performer, the keyboard part in the sonatas was almost entirely specifi cied by Bach. Countless are the editions of the Sonatas, from that by Yehudi Menuhin and Louis Kentner in 1951 up tp that by Isabelle Faust and Kristian Bezuidenhout nel 2018. " is Album cointains and edition which is not available from yeas and despite it does not follow the recent philologic parameters, it off ers an example of unmatched classicism for its cleanliness, strength of its performers and equilibrium in its recording. An important extra is given by the hard to fi nd recordings for organ of ‘40 and ‘60 by Helmuth Walcha.
